Real Estate Weekly Round Up

Feb 14, 2024 | Ever wonder what real estate agents read to better understand the market? Starting this week we’re pulling back the curtain and sharing a weekly roundup of our favourite pieces of Toronto real estate journalism…

Our First Offering: Are Bidding Wars Really Back? Buyers, agents, and sellers are abuzz that bidding wars are returning to the Toronto market after everyone from CTV to BlogTO reported an Erin Mills home received a jaw-dropping 85 offers on February 1st.

Closer to home a house on Grenadier Ave. in Roncesvalles had 14 offers at the end of January and home on Pryor Ave, near Earlscourt, sold for $201,000 over ask. In the last week, nearly two in three homes listed between $1-3 million sold above asking.

The Toronto Star has a quick read about factors prompting sudden competition including a renewed buyer-seller imbalance. In our experience, the best way to understand the market is to talk to a pro. Call us anytime at (416) 937-8734.

Loan & Behold: Economists Are Suddenly Less Optimistic About Lending Rate Cuts. Yikes. After weeks of economists and analysts predicting rate hikes could come as soon as April, a slew of economic indicators including unexpectedly strong job numbers are revising expectations. The Financial Post warns the Bank of Canada might cut “later and less.”

We’ve been digging into Better Dwelling Magazine’s analysis. They’ve dug deep into the Bank of Canada’s internal lending rate deliberations, January’s falling unemployment numbers and the recent surge in Toronto home sales

If you’re buying or selling in 2024, we want to help you understand how interest rates will impact your next move. Reach out to chat or for a referral to a savvy lender.

London (Ontario) Calling: CNN has named a London, Ontario townhouse complex as one of this year’s most influential building projects in the world. Honestly, EVE Park has rizz. Some other famous contenders include the Grand Palais Restoration in Paris, France and the Nanjing Vertical Forest in China.

Prepare to be floored…Toronto Life always has eye candy! This week they’re highlighting a Scandinavian modern North York abode that’s definitely giving us a case of house envy! For those in a throwback mood, their regular “surreal estate” section features a $3.8-million 1970s bungalow from the architect who designed Sherway Gardens. The seventies are back, and this updated pad retains plenty of vintage charm. Can you dig it?
